What is search engine optimization (SEO)?
SEO is one method used to improve the quality or amount of traffic to a web site from search engines. In plain English, here is an example of what we mean. If you use a search engine such as Google, Yahoo or Bing and type in "computer support congleton", you will come up with about 15,000 results. Probably you will not look beyond the first few pages of results before choosing a web site to visit. Why are some sites listed higher than others? Probably SEO played a large part in this. Using our example of searching for "computer support congleton", sites such as Westhouse IT will have edited pages on their site to include the phrase "computer support", "computer support congleton" and perhaps one or two variations of these words, and come higher up the results listing than computer shops based in Congleton. SEO is one way a company will try to ensure they are high up on the results listings, and attract customers who are looking for their particular service.
